Sungui

Sungui – Hidden contributor behind the general Sunshin Lee

1550(Myungjong 5)∼1598(Seonjo 31). Military subject in the middle of Joseon Dynasty

“There is no star that shines by itself. Stars are shining by receiving light from others” In the history of Korea, general Sunshin Lee was the most loyal and powerful. Exerting the leadership in Hangju Fortress, general Yul Kwon conquered the Japanese armies that were ten times bigger than his. There was always a hidden contributor for these two greatest generals. He was Sungui. In the society that only the top person is remembered, there is no one who remembers Sungui. However, without Sungui, there would be no Hansando battle led by the general Sunshin Lee or siege of Hangju led by the general Yul Kwon. Instead of making himself shine, Sungui did his work as a hidden contributor. He is a great figure giving a precious lesson in current political world in modern era that politicians only show off their contributions while looking down on others’ accomplishment.
