Goyang is a place where Kawaji rice seed was found as a starting point for farming culture in Korean Peninsula 5000 years ago. Therefore, Goyang is regarded as the beginning of the history in Korean Peninsula. Furthermore, it is the city with 50000 years of history from the past where there were many of the historical events such as the siege of Hangju. In terms of the nature and culture, Goyang shines itself even more. Among famous mountains in Korea, Bukhansan Mountain is one of the most beautiful mountains located in Goyang-si. It shows the beauty throughout all four seasons. As for culture, Goyang-si has many of the cultural assets as well. Especially, Seogreung and Seosamreung registered in UNESCO as a part of tombs during Joseon Dynasty are the zenith. Meaning three tombs to the west of Hanyang, Seosamreung is comprised of three tombs of Heereung, Hyoreung, and Yereung, and is also the 200th historical site.
Comprised of five tombs of Changreung, Hyungreung, Myungreung, Ikreung, and Hongreung, Seoreung is the 198th historical site that is the second largest among tombs in Joseon Dynasty. As it was registered in global cultural assets, Seoreung is historically valuable place. Other than them, there are many of the cultural heritages that are not registered as global cultural heritages or cultural assets as a potential of assets in the future of Goyang.
