“Ilsan Station Exhibition Hall,”
capturing the modern cultural
heritage of Korea

The Ilsan Station Exhibition Hall is located right by Exit 2 of Ilsan Station on the Gyeongui–Jungang Line. Ever since Ilsan Station was built on the Gyeongui–Jungang Line, the time came to a standstill for Ilsan which has stood here since 1933.
However, since the rare original design of the building is well preserved, it has been designated as a cultural heritage of early modern times in recognition of its value.

Inside the exhibition hall
Ilsan Station was a passage used by independence fighters to avoid arrest and infiltrate into Seoul or head to China.
Moreover, since the place displays many exhibits showing the history of the Gyeongui Line and Ilsan Station, offers hands-on experience as station staff, and accommodates slow mailbox and cute photo zones, it would be ideal to learn history and build sweet memories here. The exhibition hall is also very close to Ilsan Market where the above-mentioned large-scale independence demonstration took place on the market day, so it would be a good idea to visit that place as well.

“Neuggok 1904,” inspired by the inception of Neunggok Station in 1904, takes you through 100 years of beautiful history. Since a new station opened in 2009, the time has stood still at Neunggok Station which had long witnessed the history of Korea.
Although Neuggok Station had been left to rot as an abandoned railroad station and had been at risk of being demolished, it was reborn as a cultural space through the urban regeneration new deal project through the effort of local residents and Goyang.

The main hall houses
a cafe to provide cultural experience and a shelter to relax,
and “Gonggam 1904” and “Kitchen 1904” stand next. “Gonggam 1904” is used as a multi-purpose space to hold performances, exhibitions, and other various events, and “Kitchen 1904” is used as a shared kitchen to provide cooking classes to local inhabitants.
Although the roar of the trains no longer sounds at the old Neunggok Station, 1904 Todang Culture Platform echoes the sound of a quantum leap towards another world with its perfect blend of culture and relaxation.
