DMZ Peace Trail
DMZ Peace Trail is
under construction to transform the demilitarized zone and border areas marked by the scars of war and the pain of division into the areas of peace and coexistence. Citizens will be able to walk along the Themed Route and Cross Route (scheduled to open in 2023) and gain hands-on experience on the ecosystem, culture, and history resources of the demilitarized zone.
Goyang Course
The story of Haengjusanseong Fortress and the outing course along Janghang Wetland designated as Ramsar Wetland in 2021.
The wetland designated as an area with controlled access of civilians has become home to rare animals and plants, and areas surrounded by the military barbed wire have become the park for family members, while military barracks are getting ready to welcome tourists.

Located at 89 Haengju-ro 15beon-gil, Deogyang-gu, Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do, Haengjusanseong Fortress is well known for the Battle of Haengju, one of the major battles that took place during the Japanese invasions of Korea.
The earthen fortress that covers an area of 354,732 m2 is located on Deokyangsan Mountain near the Hangang River's southwestern edge and was designated as Historical Landmark No. 56.
Haengjusanseong History Park has been built by removing military barbed wire that had been installed down the Hanggang River to prevent the infiltration of belligerents in the early 1970s. This was where it was first removed among the 12.9-km-long barbed wire alongside the Hanggang River in Goyang and it was open to the public in 2016 for the first time in 46 years since its installation. It is on the Hanggang River in front of the Goyang Civil Servant Training Institute spanning over an area of 33,000 m2. It is also where the 3.73-km-long Haengjusanseong Fortress Nurigil Trail begins.
Haengjunaru Dock is on the bank of the Hangang River underneath the north-western foot of Haengjusanseong Fortress.
The exact location of Haengju Dock used to be the white sand beach that once had a stone stone hill undernearth the Haengju Garden restaurant about 400m towards the upstream from the northern pier of the Haengjudaegyo Bridge but it old scene no longer holds true due to the rise of the water level caused by the installation of a barrier and the amass of mud on the shore.
Hangang Visitor Center (formerly Haengju Military Barracks)
The Hanggang Visitor Center has transformed into a space for relaxation. The first floor of the Hanggang Visitor Center has a shared kitchen along with a restroom and showers to allow visitors to cook simple dishes.
The second floor is used as an office for Hanggang maintenance and the rooftop shelter on the third floor holds an open terrace.
Sinpyeong Artist Residency Saedeul (formerly Sinpyeong Military Barracks)
Sinpyeong Artist Residency “Saedeul” means “new field,” and this creative space used to be a military barracks before renovation.
Currently, four artists occupy this space to create artworks and they study the ecology and environment of the region to visualize gathered data.
The Janghang Wetland was closed to civilians for a long time due to the establishment of a military barbed wire. The wetland, which had not been reached by humans, preserved nature as it was, and in recognition of its value, it was designated as the "Ramsar Wetland" for the first time among inland wetlands in Gyeonggi Province.
Janghang Wetland Observatory
Janghangseupji Wetland Bird Observatory is a two-story structure that covers an area of 174 m2. The first floor is dedicated for exhibitions and education and the second floor is an observatory.
The bird observatory has a corner fo Janghangseupji Wetland promotional videos, audio corner that play natural sounds of the wetland, exhibition of wooden carvings of migratory birds that visit the wetland, and bird observatory with telescopes through which visitors can observe migratory birds.
Ramsar Goyang Janghang Wetland Center (formerly Janghang Military Barracks)
Inside the facilities, there is an ecology learning center, a 4D video theater, and more.
As you walk up to the 30m-tall observatory, the clear and fair view of the lower reaches of the Hanggang River unfolds before your eyes.
The second floor here is an ideal spot to watch migratory birds and enjoy the view of the wetland.
In particular, the willow forest along the Hangang River is an unexplored landscape not commonly found in Korea.
Stronghold on the DMZ Peace Road (formerly Tongilchon Military Barracks)
The Tongilchon Military Barracks were built to serve as the stronghold in 2022 on the DMZ Peace Road. The construction of the DMZ Peace Road has given a fresh look to this location and it will be run as a shelter/exhibition hall after the interior construction.
The nearby military posts have also been renovated. Since last June and until the last month, 9 military posts nearby the Goyang Hangang Peace Park had been renovated. The facilities were repaired and a pedestrian deck was installed to enhance convenience. Visitors can now sit on the bench and gaze vacantly into the waters of the Hangang River.
