Seokjeon Daeje, the biggest traditional ritual of Confucian temple in Goyang
On every August 27th of lunar calendar, the Confucian temple in Goyang-dong, Deokgyang-gu, Goyang city performs Seokjeon Daeje.
This daeje is sacrificial rite performed together with Confucian scholars, town chiefs, and citizens.
Without special occasion, the first serving of ritual is served by the Goyang city mayor, the second serving is served by chairman of Goyang city council, and the last serving is served by the representative of the Confucian scholars.
It is a traditional ritual ceremony held in honor of Confucius and various saints that is held every year in the Confucian temple.
In addition to the old sages of China, Dongmu and Seomu enshrines ancestral tablets of Korean Confucian sages, thus many rituals are done together.
Seokjeondaeje of Confucian temple is one of the most important traditional festivals in Goyang City.
It takes about an hour and many participants perform the ritual according to the order and finishes with burning of remaining residue and eating and drinking rituals.
