Rain Ritual and Gyeondal mountin of Munbong-dong, Siksa-dong of Ilsan Dong-gu

Gyeondal Mountain represents the ilsan region together with Gobong Mountain.

With height of 133m above the sea level, it is located at the border of Siksa-dong and Munbong-dong. As there are no big trees at the top of Gyeondal Mountain, it’s a place where the surroundings can be seen. The name comes from the wash basin of a Ming emperor. The mountain itself takes a beautiful shape as well.

However, with new construction of warehouses and, storage units, much of the original forest is gone.

During the old times, people of Goyang including the Goyang governor performed rain rituals at Gyeondal Mountain.

The water that flowers from Gyeondal Mountain flowers to Siksa-dong, Pung-dong, Sanhwang-dong, Baekseok-dong, Daejang-dong, Shinpyeong-dong, and Janghang-dong into Han River, and if this water dries from drought there would be difficulty in farming.

The residents of Siksa-dong and Munbong-dong have been performing rain ritually diligently. The townspeople worship the mountain carefully as a great mountain and say that the mountain that touches the sky listens to the prayers of people when they perform rain rituals.
